Human Information
The Importance Of Water
Water is the most neglected nutrient in any diet but one of the most vital.
It is essential for the maintenance of every physiological process in the humans body. Dehydration causes loss of ability to function properly. If you lose 2.5% of your body weight as water you will lose 25% of your efficiency.
If there is no water to drink then you must not eat as this will cause dehydration further. Adequate hydration is critically important.
Water helps to maintain body temperature, metabolize body fat, aids digestion, lubricates and cushions organs, transports nutrients and helps to flush waste products from the body via the kidneys.
As a rule humans need about 1.5 litres per day.
Equine Information
The Importance Of Water
The water content of a horse is similar to a human, between 60 - 75% depending on the degree of fitness, age and muscle mass etc. Water helps to maintain body temperature - metabolize body fat, aids digestion, lubricates and cushions organs, transports nutrients and helps to flush waste products from the body via the kidneys.
As a rule horses should drink between two and four litres of fresh water per kg of dry feed.

A brief introduction to Equine Bowen
As for humans this is a hands-on holistic therapy and is not limited to purely physical conditions. The horse is never too young or too old to benefit from a Bowen treatment.
Bowen Therapy differs from most other therapies by seeking to boost the horses own natural healing capabilities, allowing it to adjust and balance itself.
There can be an improvement after the first treatment and the healing process will continue for some days. A second treatment is usually recommended to check the progress and introduce specific moves in relation to the horses individual condition.
The treatment requires specific moves across muscles, tendons and ligaments using thumb and fingers in a rolling action. This gentle stimulation, often over or along meridian lines seeks to balance the muscle which in turn aligns the skeletal system taking pressure off internal organs and stimulating energy flows - promoting good functional health.
Acute conditions can respond very quickly and positively but long term conditions will respond more slowly.
It doesn't matter what the workload is, most domesticated horses suffer from some degree of muscular or skeletal imbalances, such as:
Uneven development
Restricted lateral movement
Wrong strike off to canter/disunited
Sore/cold back or withers
High/low head carriage
Stiffness on one rein
Heavy in the hands
Saddle issues, etc.
If any of these sound familar please get in touch.
